If I order a sequencer, do I also need a driver?
No, the sequencers have drivers built into them. A sequencer produces the high-frequency alternating current needed for lighting EL wire, and also switches the juice to the different EL wires in sequence.

What can delay my order (or more to the point, how can I avoid causing delays?)
Orders are not processed until payment has been processed. Often, orders are delayed because the payment cannot be processed. It is usually because of wrong or missing information provided during the ordering process. If there is a different name or address associated with a credit card, be sure to supply the credit card information for "Billing Address." Also, if the wrong credit card number, C V V number, or expiration date are supplied, the payment will not go through. Please note, credit cards are evil and should not exist at all. If you do not have the money to pay for something as frivolous as EL wire, you certainly should not be borrowing money from a credit card company to do so. (Unless you can pay it back with your next paycheck.) If this causes someone to think twice about their financial situation and decide not to order, GREAT! For anyone looking for financial peace, please get the book or audio book, "The Total Money Makeover" by Dave Ramsey. You can also listen to Dave Ramsey's podcasts for free. http://www.daveramsey.com/

How can I order multiple lengths of the same color NeonString?
Let's say you want a 10' section of blue 2.5mm wire, and a 20' section of blue... you would simply order 30' of blue, and in the Comments section, put in a note to the effect, "I would like a 10 foot section and a 20 foot section."

Does a sequencer require a driver, or does it have its own driver mechanism?
Sequencers do not require an additional driver, they have their own built-in driver circuitry. You just supply power (and EL wire.)
How long does NeonString el wire last?
The phosphorous used in electroluminescent lighting burns out with usage. The molecules crack over time. NeonString high-bright el wire, if lit for 6 hours per day for a year, will be about half as bright as it started out, at the end of a year's time.
Where is NeonString located? Do you have a store or showroom where I can see the products in person?
NeonString.com is based in La Porte, Texas. At this time, NeonString.com does not have a physical storefront, and is Internet-based only, so there is not a walk-in location.
Does el wire get hot?
No, it does not even get warm. The temperature is unaffected by being on or off.
Can el wire electrocute me?
I have put my tongue on the end of el wire that was not sealed. While I would advise people to NOT do this, it did not electrocute me. The voltages sent to the el wire are quite safe.
I want to order a driver/el wire combination that is not specifically offered on your website. How can I order exactly what I want?
Some pre-made options are available on the website, but with so many driver options, and an infinite number of options as far as el wire length, sometimes it is necessary to let us know exactly what you need. Please send an email to orders at neonstring.com or call 832-868-7894 from noon until 7:00pm CST. We will promptly reply to your email with the price for your exact order.
Do I really need to use a driver? What exactly do the drivers do?
Yes, without a high frequency alternating current, the wire will not light at all. The battery-powered drivers for EL wire convert DC power to AC power, usually from 2,000 - 4,000 Hertz. The AC drivers convert standard US 60 Hertz electricity to the higher 2,000 - 4,000 Hertz frequency.
Can I use el wire outside?
Yes, but keep in mind, the phosphorous materials in el wire are photo reactive, and will degrade more rapidly when exposed to UV light. The 5mm wire is designed to provide more UV shielding, for wire that will be exposed to a lot of sunlight. (Not all colors are available in the 5mm size.) I really don't care for the 5mm wire personally, because the extra shielding means it is not quite as bright as the 2.5mm wire.
Can I use el wire for a costume?
Yes, but avoid knees and elbows, because the tiny radial wire in the el wire will break if bent back and forth too many times, which will stop the wire from ever lighting again.
Do the drivers make any sound?
Yes, they make a high pitched sound. The loudness varies from driver to driver, but no elwire driver is completely silent.
Can the sound bleed out into other equipment?
Yes, the high-pitched sound produced by the drivers can bleed into other equipment, ie phones, musical equipment, if located too close to each other.
What colors are available?
In our standard product, the 2.5mm high bright, long life wire, the colors available are: Green Blue Aqua White Yellow Pink Red Orange Lime Purple
How and where can I cut the el wire?
You can cut it anywhere, using wire cutters or scissors.
I have never soldered anything, but can I save myself some money and solder the el wire myself?
Soldering is very easy, but el wire is a little different from regular soldering, because of the hair-thin radial wires. You can get a better idea of whether it is something you want to try if you look at the step-by-step instructions Click Here
What is brighter, neon, LED's, or el wire?
Neon and LED's (including LED ropelight) are FAR brighter than el wire.
I want my el wire to be bright as possible. Any tips?
The brightest colors are Aqua Blue and Lime Green. Also, generally speaking, if a driver is rated for 30 feet, and another driver is rated for 45 feet, the one rated for 45 feet will be brighter. If brightness is the primary consideration, and I want to light 30 feet of wire, I will not use a driver rated at 30 feet, because I know that a driver capable of lighting 45 feet will light up my 30 feet more brightly. Likewise, if I want to light 40 feet of el wire, I will not use the driver capable of lighting 45 feet, but instead I will go up to the next driver, the Big Boy driver, which can light up to 100 feet.
I soldered my own project, and my NeonString won't light up! What should I do?
First, be sure to turn the driver off, or remove power from it, because if the driver is on, but the wire is not lit, it can fry the driver.

Occasionally, I have soldered el wire and then had it not light up. I would assume it was my connection, cut it off, and re-solder the whole thing, only to have it still not light up. What happens rarely, is that when the el wire is cut, the tiny radial wires and the central copper wire get crossed, shorting the circuit. If this happens, the solution is to simply cut off a tiny tiny bit of the end of the el wire. A millimeter should do it, because all you are doing is trying to cut off the very tip where the short is occurring.

If your driver has a power indicator light, see if it is on? If not, the batteries may be in backwards, or the driver may not be getting power.

If you are using the AC driver for up to 10 feet, the driver may need to be switched on. There is a little button on the top of it that is nearly flush with the surface, so it is very hard to see. Try pressing that.

Polarity does not matter with the el wire, because it is alternating current, but polarity DOES matter going INTO the driver. If power is connected to the driver with the wrong polarity, it will not light. This may damage the driver if left in place for very long, so please keep that in mind.
